Stop Snoring

sleeping.jpg

Snoring is caused by the muscles in the neck and throat relaxing during sleep; the vibration causes the snoring noise.

But snoring is more than just a loud noise.

It leads to broken sleep for snorers and their partners, and can have a big impact on their quality of life.

Sometimes snoring is associated with obstructive sleep anpnoea - when the airway completely closes and effectively breathing ceases for short periods.

At Madeley Dental, we can help you if you have a sleeping disorder. Firstly, we will carry out a sleep assessment, based on answers to questions for both you and your partner.

This allows us to assess the likelihood of you having sleep apnoea. If there is a high risk, we will refer you to a specialist sleep clinic for further assessment.

For most patients the assessment shows a low risk of apnoea, and we can often provide a mouth appliance to reduce or eliminate snoring. This is called a mandibular advancement device. It holds the lower jaw forward during sleep to stop the snoring noise.
